Flame Monitor Stand

Art Challenge

$387.00

Originally crafted for a silent auction challenge at the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, this piece explores the delicate and often conflicting relationship between art and business. Art’s goal is to make us feel, while business strives for structure, function, and profit. Yet, with care and social responsibility, both forces are necessary to build a thriving community.

To represent the raw passion, love, and occasional turmoil inherent in our pursuits, the top is crafted from a striking Flame Box Elder slab. The natural live edge and vibrant "flame" grain pattern are left wild and untamed.

In stark contrast, the base represents the structured world of business and commerce. As a nod to Bethlehem’s deep-rooted history in steel production, the Red Oak base is stained with earth minerals and sealed with a modified tung oil to achieve a dark, metallic appearance. The straight, rigid lines of the oak purposefully contrast with the organic flow of the slab above it.

Ultimately, these two opposing forces must work together to create something meaningful. This piece serves as a functional desktop monitor stand, elevating your screen while providing practical space to tuck your keyboard away underneath—a daily reminder that true community is built when art and commerce unite.
